CHIME project
The CHIME study is currently closed to the enrollment of new participants.

Project overview
Comparing Health Interventions for Maternal Equity (CHIME) is taking an innovative approach to understanding what mothers need to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles during pregnancy and the early stages of motherhood.
CHIME, a project with funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, will recruit pregnant patients from communities across New York City (NYC). Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to one of three interventions:

-
Usual care consisting of social needs screening and targeted community social services referrals using clinical decision support tools;
-
Usual care + a self-management intervention focused on social needs including a clinical intervention with direct provision of groceries, physical activity resources, and transportation vouchers + a self-directed behavioral intervention delivered by mobile technology; or
-
Usual care + an intervention led by community health workers for active assistance with goal setting, social needs with health coaching, weekly group fitness activities, and an active lifestyle intervention.

Participants will be asked to complete in person and virtual visits for the study on four occasions (at baseline during the third trimester, at 6 months post-partum, and 12 months post-partum) to complete study measures, including surveys and anthropometric measurements.
CHIME will examine and compare the effectiveness of each intervention on post-partum weight retention at 12 months postpartum as well as impacts on other maternal health indicators, social needs, and infant health outcomes. Ultimately, these findings may hold the potential to change clinical practice by providing new packages of linked social and behavioral interventions for implementation in clinical and community practice to ensure maternal health equity.
